Being eligible to submit an SBI PO form is not the same as surviving every selection gate. Age, graduation and allowed attempts govern the application; later scores govern selection, and Preliminary marks may not enter final merit. This guide gives you a notification checklist, candidate audit and merit calculation. Every exact value is a worked reading of SBI advertisement CRPD/PO/2026-27/09 dated 18 June 2026, not a rule for another cycle.

1. Start with the SBI notification, then run three separate checks

Begin with SBI Careers Current Openings. The live advertisement, its corrigenda and call-letter instructions take priority over coaching pages and older summaries. Our worked source is SBI advertisement CRPD/PO/2026-27/09, dated 18 June 2026.

Run three independent checks: application eligibility covers age, qualification, category and permissible chances; stage qualification covers Preliminary, Main and Phase III; final merit includes only the scores SBI says to aggregate. Passing one gate cannot repair failure at another. All dates, limits, shortlist ratios and mark structures below come from the dated advertisement. The live notice and any corrigendum govern your cycle.

2. SBI PO age and graduation eligibility: work both cutoffs

SBI's 18 June 2026 advertisement set the age at 21 to 30 years as on 1 April 2026. The inclusive birth-date window was 2 April 1996 to 1 April 2005. Graduation in any discipline, or an equivalent recognised qualification, was due by 30 September 2026. Final-year or final-semester applicants needed proof by then.

Candidate A is Riya, UR, born on 15 July 2000, with a BA result dated 30 June 2026. On 1 April 2026 she is 25 years, 8 months, 17 days old. Her dates fit both windows, so she passes both gates. Category and Main appearances remain separate checks.

Candidate B, Aarav, was born on 1 April 2005 and has a result dated 15 October 2026. His birth date reaches the inclusive edge, but his result misses the deadline. Passing age alone does not make him eligible in this worked cycle. Use SBI PO Eligibility: Result Date, Attempts, Category for the detailed companion checklist.

3. Age relaxation and number of chances are different filters

The same SBI advertisement specified these separate upper-age relaxations:

Documented category in the advertisement

Upper-age relaxation

OBC, non-creamy layer

3 years

SC/ST

5 years

PwBD UR/EWS

10 years

PwBD OBC

13 years

PwBD SC/ST

15 years

Stated ex-servicemen category

5 years

It allowed no cumulative age relaxation. Chances were 6 for UR/EWS, 9 for UR/EWS PwBD and OBC/OBC PwBD, and unrestricted for the listed SC/ST groups. A Main appearance counted; a Preliminary-only appearance did not.

A UR candidate with 5 Main appearances and 2 Preliminary-only appearances has used 5, not 7, chances, leaving 6 - 5 = 1. An OBC candidate with 9 Main appearances fails this chance gate even if the age-relaxation gate passes. These are values from the dated advertisement.

4. SBI PO selection process: map what each phase does

SBI's 18 June 2026 advertisement described this stage map:

Stage

Structure in the advertisement

Selection role

Phase I, Preliminary

100 questions, 100 marks, 60 minutes: English 40, Quantitative Aptitude 30 and Reasoning Ability 30, with 20 minutes each.

No sectional cutoff. Approximately 10 times category-wise vacancies shortlisted for Main. Screening only. Prepare with SBI PO Prelims.

Phase II, Main

Objective: 170 questions, 200 marks, 3 hours. Descriptive: 3 tasks, 30 marks, 30 minutes, immediately after. Total: 230 marks in 3 hours 30 minutes.

Qualify each stated Main section and the descriptive paper. Up to approximately 3 times category-wise vacancies shortlisted for Phase III. Study with SBI PO Mains.

Phase III

Mandatory psychometric profiling, Group Exercise for 20 marks and Interview for 30 marks.

SBI sets the thresholds.

The advertisement deducted 1/4 of the assigned marks for a wrong objective answer and gave no penalty for an unanswered one. The SBI PO Prelims, Mains and Final Stage: A 12-Hour Week Plan turns this map into a study routine, not different rules.

SBI PO eligibility-to-final-merit flow. Show Application gate with age 21-30 as on 1 Apr 2026, graduation by 30 Sep 2026, category relaxation and permissible Main chances; arrow to Phase I: 100 questions, 100 marks, 60 minutes, English 40 + Quant 30 + Reasoning 30, 20 minutes each; arrow labelled category merit, approximately 10x vacancies to Phase II: objective 170 questions/200 marks/3 hours + descriptive 3 tasks/30 marks/30 minutes = 230 marks/3 hours 30 minutes; arrow labelled up to approximately 3x vacancies to Phase III: mandatory psychometric profiling + Group Exercise 20 + Interview 30 = 50 marks; arrow to Final merit: Main normalized to 75 + Group Exercise/Interview normalized to 25 = 100. Draw Phase I on a side branch labelled screening only, not added to final merit. Footer: Worked notification dated 18 Jun 2026; verify the live SBI notice and corrigenda for your cycle.

5. Final merit calculation: Main contributes 75 and Phase III contributes 25

The same advertisement converted the 230 Main marks to 75 and the 50 Group Exercise plus Interview marks to 25, for a composite of 100. It excluded Preliminary marks and assigned none to psychometric profiling.

Take an illustrative candidate with Preliminary 73/100, Main 184/230, and Group Exercise plus Interview 38/50:

  • Main contribution: (184 / 230) x 75 = 60

  • Phase III contribution: (38 / 50) x 25 = 19

  • Final composite: 60 + 19 = 79/100

  • Incorrect route: 79 + 73. Do not add it because Preliminary is screening only.

The 79 teaches the formula, not a cutoff, qualifying score or selection prediction. The advertisement made psychometric questions mandatory and put their information before the interview panel; normalization used Group Exercise and Interview marks. SBI PO Psychometric Test: Traits and Honest Practice explains an honest approach.

6. Document and candidature checks can still stop the process

The dated advertisement supports this audit:

  1. Match the name and birth date in the application and identity proof.

  2. Keep qualification evidence showing a result by the notified deadline.

  3. Select the correct category and hold the required current supporting certificate.

  4. Record every previous Main appearance honestly.

  5. Retain the call letters and authenticated identity documents required at later stages.

Riya's application and identity proof say 15 July 2000; her mark sheet says 30 June 2026. If one record says 15 July 2001, she should use the permitted official process, not assume arithmetic overrides verification. The advertisement described biometric checks and warned that false, inconsistent or unsupported particulars could cancel candidature. Take edge cases to the live notice.

7. SBI PO eligibility and selection: the short checklist

Use this chain: open the live SBI notice, test age and qualification on its cutoff dates, apply documented category relaxation, count Main appearances, clear Phase I, qualify Phase II and Phase III separately, then calculate final merit only from included components.

Make a sheet with your birth date, graduation-result date, category-document status and counted Main appearances. Copy the live notice's stage map. Use SBI PO Exam Preparation to compare the preparation route without treating preparation as a selection promise.
