Your answers may be grammatically acceptable, yet you may not know whether your clarity, relevance or speed is improving. This six-week system turns writing practice into measured communication gains through timed tasks, a fixed review rubric and rewrites. It uses SBI's 2025 Mains handout only as a previous-cycle practice baseline. The current SBI notification remains controlling.
What SBI PO Mains descriptive communication asks you to practise
The 2025 handout specified a 30-minute, 50-mark English Descriptive Test: one email-writing choice worth 15 marks, one situation-analysis choice worth 15 marks, and one report-writing or precis-writing choice worth 20 marks. That mix suggests four trainable outcomes: state the purpose early, select relevant facts, organise them usefully, and finish with a clear action or conclusion. SBI's careers guidance values written proficiency and logical persuasion, but does not reveal the test's marking scheme. Start with one 90-minute baseline, not a vague self-rating
Run a diagnostic: 5 minutes to read six choices and select one from each task group, 30 minutes to type three responses, 35 minutes to score them, and 20 minutes to rewrite the weakest. In the writing block, use 2 minutes to choose and plan, 7 for email, 7 for situation analysis, 12 for report or precis, and 2 to proofread. This is a practice strategy, not SBI-mandated timing.
Record: email, 174 words in 9:20; situation analysis, 162 in 8:40; report, 221 in 12:00; 11 actionable errors across 557 words; score, 12/20. An actionable error is a buried request, irrelevant detail, unsupported claim, paragraph-order problem or mechanics error. Write a precise diagnosis: "The request appears only in the final paragraph, four sentences exceed 25 words, and two figures are introduced without explaining why they matter."
The six-week SBI PO descriptive plan: five hours each week
Weekly load: Monday email, 45 minutes; Tuesday situation analysis, 45; Wednesday alternating report or precis, 45; Thursday review and rewrite, 45; Saturday mixed mock, 30, then scoring and rewriting, 60; Sunday error log and outline drill, 30. Total: 4 x 45 + 90 + 30 = 300 minutes = 5 hours.
In Weeks 1 and 2, learn structures and finish one clean response at a time. In Weeks 3 and 4, impose the 7, 7 and 12-minute caps plus planning. In Weeks 5 and 6, keep Saturday's mock and replace Thursday's rewrite with another 30-minute mixed mock plus 15 minutes of rapid review. The hours do not guarantee a score increase.
Never double a missed session late at night. Recover a missed Monday or Tuesday with a 15-minute outline on Sunday. If Saturday is missed, run a 30-minute mock and 30-minute review on Sunday, and record the lost review time honestly.
Work three communication drills with facts, decisions and exact outputs
Email drill: You are a probationary officer at Lake Road branch. During pension week, daily walk-ins rose from 180 to 245. Request one additional counter officer from the regional office, 1 to 7 August. Subject: "Temporary counter support for pension week". Open with the request, then show 245 - 180 = 65, about a 36% rise. State the likely service effect without a guarantee; ask for confirmation. Cap: 150 words and 7 minutes.
Situation-analysis drill: A payment-system outage starts at 10:30. Twenty-seven customers wait, cash works, restoration is estimated at 45 minutes, and several pensioners are present. Verify it, station one staff member at the entrance, separate cash-service customers, issue numbered tokens, share the estimate without promising restoration, and log complaints. Cap: 170 words and 7 minutes.
Third drill: Report week covers a financial-literacy camp with 120 attendees, 78 guided digital-payment demonstrations, 34 questions and 11 follow-up account enquiries. Use heading, purpose, outcomes, issues and follow-up in 210 words and 12 minutes. Precis week reduces a 270-word passage to 90 words. Keep the central claim and three supporting ideas, add no opinion, then title it. These self-imposed constraints are not official SBI word limits.
Turn every response into a 20-point communication score

Replace "Due to the fact that a large number of customers are coming to the branch, it is requested that additional staff may kindly be provided" with "Daily walk-ins rose from 180 to 245 this week. Please assign one additional counter officer from 1 to 7 August." Evidence and action move forward; 25 words become 20.
Measure communication gain without pretending to predict marks
Track average rubric score, actionable errors per 100 words, and the percentage of tasks finished within the practice cap.
Week 1: (11 / 557) x 100 = 1.97 errors per 100 words. Week 4: (4 / 515) x 100 = 0.78. Using those rounded rates, the reduction is ((1.97 - 0.78) / 1.97) x 100 = 60.4%, or about 60%.
Completing 1 of 3 tasks within its cap is about 33%; 3 of 3 is 100%. Gain means fewer errors while more tasks fit the clock, not more words.
