CTET Qualifying Marks and Certificate Validity

Understand the CTET pass threshold, how category concessions are applied, why the certificate lasts for life, and when another attempt is worth taking.

CTET is a threshold exam, but the threshold is only the first decision. Candidates also need to know whether a category concession applies, how long the certificate remains useful and why a pass does not automatically produce a teaching appointment.

Once those ideas are separated, the strategy becomes much cleaner. You prepare to clear CTET, then use or improve the score according to the recruitment rules of the schools and bodies you target.

What CTET qualifying marks mean

Recent CTET bulletins have stated that a candidate scoring 60 per cent or more in TET is considered to have passed. That is the general threshold, but it must be read with the bulletin's wording on concessions.

The bulletin allows school managements to consider concessions for candidates from SC, ST, OBC and differently abled categories according to their applicable reservation policies. It does not create one universal relaxed pass percentage that every recruiting body must use. That distinction matters: a number circulating in a coaching group may not be the rule applied by your target employer.

Read the current CTET Information Bulletin before applying. It is the authoritative place for the threshold, concession language, certificate rules and any current-cycle instructions.

Passing also does not mean that every section can be ignored once the total looks safe. A balanced score is more useful when a recruiter gives weight to CTET performance, and it protects you from a weak subject becoming the reason you miss the overall threshold.

CTET certificate validity is for life

Recent CTET bulletins state that the qualifying certificate is valid for a lifetime for all categories. There is also no restriction on the number of attempts a person may take to acquire the certificate, and a qualified candidate may appear again to improve the score.

Lifetime validity changes the preparation decision in two helpful ways.

First, you do not need to retake CTET simply to keep an already earned certificate alive. You can direct that time towards the recruitment exam, subject knowledge, pedagogy or interview preparation required by the employer you are targeting.

Second, a repeat attempt can be a deliberate score-improvement choice rather than a renewal duty. If your present score qualifies you but leaves little margin for a recruitment process that gives CTET scores weight, another attempt may be useful.

Keep the certificate and mark statement safely. Lifetime validity removes expiry pressure, but it does not remove an employer's document-verification requirements.

A CTET pass is eligibility, not a job offer

CTET is one eligibility condition for appointments covered by the applicable rules. Qualifying does not create a right to recruitment or employment. The recruiting body still applies its own vacancy, qualification, category, document and selection conditions.

KVS, NVS, DSSSB, state bodies and individual school systems can use CTET within different recruitment frameworks. One may require a separate examination. Another may consider the score alongside academic qualifications, experience or an interview. A state system may rely on its own TET rules for some posts.

This is why three documents should never be mixed up:

  1. the CTET bulletin, which governs the test and certificate;

  2. the recruitment notification, which governs the job selection;

  3. the service or appointment rules, which govern final eligibility for the post.

A valid CTET certificate helps you enter the recruitment conversation. It does not settle that conversation by itself.

When a CTET score-improvement attempt makes sense

Retake CTET when the likely benefit is larger than the preparation cost. Four situations make a repeat attempt reasonable.

  • Your first score is only slightly above the applicable qualifying line, and your target recruiters may give the score weight.

  • One section is clearly weaker than the others, so a focused correction can lift the total without rebuilding the entire syllabus.

  • You prepared for only one paper earlier and now need the other paper for the teaching level you plan to target.

  • Your concepts have improved through teaching or further study, making a stronger score realistic with a short revision cycle.

Do not retake automatically because friends are doing so. If your score already serves the recruitment routes you want, preparing for their next selection stage may have higher value.

The CTET Paper 1 versus Paper 2 choice guide can help if the real uncertainty is which teaching level and paper fit your eligibility.

Build the preparation route around the right paper

Start by identifying the paper you need, then map every weak area to a revision and testing block. The CTET Paper 1 and Paper 2 bundle for the Sept 2026 exam suits candidates who need broader coverage.

The CTET exam preparation category keeps the related course options together. Whichever route you choose, use mocks to diagnose sections, not merely to collect total scores. Review why an option was wrong, which concept was missing and whether the error is recurring.

The short version

Recent bulletins set the general CTET pass threshold at 60 per cent and allow applicable school managements to consider category concessions under their policies. The certificate remains valid for life, but passing CTET gives eligibility, not appointment.

Check the current bulletin and your target recruitment notice separately. Retake only when a better score or an additional paper improves your path. For primary-stage preparation, use the CTET Paper 1 Course, then prepare for the recruitment stage that follows.
